Amethyst Midwitchery & Womancraft is a comprehensive alternative holistic healthcare practice, which serves families and individuals living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Our practice seeks to educate and inform clients about holistic health throughout the childbearing years, attachment parenting and consensual living, and alternative options for natural health and spiritual well-being.

We are an Inclusive and Body-Positive Practice. Our services are available to all persons regardless of religion, race/ethnicity, sex/gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, ability, weight, age, relationship status/family structure, or immigration status.

Our practice believes in Full Spectrum Midwifery. Support & midwifery care should be available to anyone expecting any pregnancy outcome, be it birth, adoption, surrogacy, miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion.

Our practice also believes that individuals are capable of deciding what kind of care best meets their needs at any given time and should be able to access the type of care and care providers of their choice without issue. We strive to represent and honour this philosophy in every aspect of our business.

While we do on occasion accept long-distance clients, who pay for our travel, room & board, and midwifery fees, our practice is community-based and as such our services are offered to people living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a few out lying areas (see service area map below). Our service area roughly covers, as far North as Zelienople, as far East as Plum/Renton (and Western Edge of Murrysville), as far South as South Park Township, and as far West as Pittsburgh International Airport (Imperial-Enlow) — this covers the Pittsburgh Metro and the vast majority of Allegheny County. If you are not located within our service area, we would be more than happy to connect you with another midwife or other care provider serving your area.

Licensure and Malpractice Insurance

Community Herbalists, Holistic Health Consultants, and Spiritual Healers are not licensed, certified or regulated in the state of Pennsylvania. Michele is NOT a licensed, certified, or regulated medical physician, nurse, or other state approved professional healthcare provider. Their care is meant to complement, not replace a client’s current healthcare provider’s treatment or advice. They do NOT carry malpractice insurance.

In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania there is currently no means of licensure for non-nurse midwives; Michele is NOT a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) nor are they a licensed non-nurse midwife. Michele has chosen to not seek out Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) status through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) so that they might best fulfil and honour the wishes and choices of the families that they serve without being legally bound to conduct their practice in any one particular manner. Michele has no future plans to become certified or licensed through any state or agency.

Mandatory Reporting:

Due to new laws, as a healthcare provider and someone who has frequent contact with children, Michele is a Mandatory Reporter for child abuse and reports to the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Michele also has both a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and a clear Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check.

Availability:

Michele has broken their leg and after surgery (04/2018) will have several months of recovery. While they’ll most likely still be available for Skype consults in about a month (05/2018), they will be unable to accept any homebirth or well care clients until probably the end of 2018/early 2019 (this timeline might get updated, as things move along).

Michele highly recommends that you reach out to Karen and Natalie of Steel City Midwives if you are needing a homebirth midwife before Michele is recovered enough and ready to accept clients again.

Thanks in advance for your well wishes and support <3
